In Loving Memory

Carol Ann Sweet

June 2, 1940 - March 18, 2007

Carol Ann Swet

We are saddened by the sudden loss of our beloved Carol Ann Sweet, the heart and soul of the Sugar Sand Ramblers band. Carol Ann fell victim to an extremely aggressive cancer robbing her of the golden years of her life..

She was the glue that held the band together. Her smiling face and on-stage antics will be missed by all who knew and played music with her. She is survived by her husband  Jim and her three children, Wendy Smollock, James Sweet Jr. and Gregory Sweet, six grand children, and sister Judith Ann Stewart.

March 25,2007
And now, our thanks go out to all who keep her memories in their hearts and to all who shared in her beautiful musical memorial in life.

In honor of her passing, the Sugar Sand Ramblers band will no longer perform in public.

The Sugar Sand Ramblers brought together a cross section of musicians from the  New Jersey Pinelands area, each with their own talent and appreciation for the region, an appreciation expressed in the songs they sing and music they play. The Pine Barrens natives have always been able to make their own music. There are songs of good times and songs of woe, songs for dance and songs that simply reflect a deep respect for this remote area. Music is at the heart of the Pinelands tradition. It is a tradition passed down from one generation to the next. Southern New Jersey is rich in a heritage that has been expressed over the centuries in its music and folk lore. From tales of the infamous Jersey Devil and other characters that roamed the depths of the pinelands in times past, to the pristine beauty of the white sugar sand roads contrasting the dark cedar water streams with their colorful and rare flowers and pine and cedar trees deep in the woods. This is what makes the culture of the Pine Barrens of New Jersey, a very special place.

With Carol Ann on dulcimer and chorded zither, Kevin on guitar, Jimmy on fiddle and banjo, Russell on banjo, and Jim on bass fiddle, the Sugar Sand Ramblers bring you a sampling of the music played and enjoyed by the people who live in this area, the sounds of the New Jersey Pines.
